AMAS — the Artaios Multi Agent System — is the execution runtime behind every Artaios agent. An agent is described as a YAML configuration (agents, models, prompts, tools, knowledge, memory and the connections between them), and AMAS runs it.

Do I need this section?

Most users do not. The Agent Builder in Artaios creates and edits this configuration for you, and the integration guides in the main Documentation work the same way whether or not you ever look at the YAML. Read on if you want to:
  • write or review an agent’s YAML by hand
  • build multi-agent systems with the workflow or supervisor pattern
  • use structured output, variables, memory or human-in-the-loop
  • understand exactly how an agent behaves at runtime

What AMAS provides

  • Two orchestration patterns. A workflow runs agents along defined edges, including conditional routing. A supervisor delegates to other agents.
  • Declarative configuration. Readable, version-controllable YAML instead of code.
  • Typed data between agents. Structured output and variables.
  • Knowledge, tools and memory. Knowledge bases, toolkits, MCP servers and a memory system.
  • Tracing. Every run is observable.
