# Concepts & Glossary

> AMAS, Agent Studio and Artaios — what each name means and which one these docs cover

Three names appear throughout this documentation. They are not interchangeable.
Knowing which is which saves a lot of confusion later.

## The three names

  <Card title="AMAS" icon="cubes">
    **Artaios Multi Agent System.** The declarative agent system: the YAML
    configuration language, the runtime that executes it, and the REST and
    WebSocket APIs.

    **This is what these docs are about.**

  <Card title="Agent Studio" icon="window">
    AMAS's web interface at [amas.artaios.com](https://amas.artaios.com). Where
    you write YAML, test in the Playground, build knowledge bases and manage
    keys.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Artaios" icon="comments">
    The end-user chat product. Not a build surface — a place your finished
    agents can be *published to* so non-technical colleagues can use them.

You build in **AMAS** (through **Agent Studio** or straight against the API).
**Artaios** is one of several places the result can end up.

## Which word to expect where

| When you read… | It means |
| - | - |
| "AMAS validates…", "AMAS supports…", "in AMAS" | The system itself — runtime behaviour, YAML schema, API semantics. Applies whether you use the UI or the API. |
| "In Agent Studio, click…" | A UI action. There is a button or a page involved. |
| "Show in Artaios", "appears in Artaios" | Publishing to the end-user chat product. A distribution setting, not a build step. |

<Note>
  **Agent Studio is not a separate product from AMAS.** It is AMAS's UI. Anything
  you can do in Agent Studio you can also do over the API — the YAML is the same
  YAML either way.
</Note>
